Gatorounds is a carefully orchestrated system that eliminates ambiguity, improves efficiency, reduces errors, and fosters teamwork. To date the system has only been adapted to General Internal Medicine. However, we envision every service using the identical principles of our championship athletic teams to improve the care of their patients. The system is readily adaptable to Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Surgical Subspecialties, and Medical Subspecialties. Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry, Urology, and Orthopedics could also create protocols based on these principles. Create your protocols, and I will post them for all to use. Our hope is that this is just the beginning of a new era in medical and surgical care for the University of Florida, the nation, and who knows, even the world.
